Set up your first syndicate
When you open Syndik8 on a brand-new account, a setup wizard takes over the home screen and walks you through getting a syndicate off the ground. This tutorial follows it end to end. By the finish you’ll have a syndicate with one aircraft, a rate your members will be charged, and an invitation on its way to your first member. Plan on about ten minutes.
The wizard has six steps, shown as a progress row across the top: Welcome, Group, Aircraft, Rates, Payments, and Invite. Only three things are compulsory, a name for your group, an aircraft, and a rate; everything else you can leave blank now and set later.
Before you begin, it helps to have a few things to hand:
- A name for your syndicate (anything recognisable, such as “G-ABCD Syndicate”).
- Your aircraft’s tail number (for example,
G-ABCD) and today’s reading on the meter you bill by. - The rate a member pays per flying hour. Syndik8 does not add VAT to the charges your members owe each other.
- The email address of the first person you want to invite.
Missing some of it? Follow along anyway; every one of these can be changed afterwards.
Step 1: Welcome
Section titled “Step 1: Welcome”On a fresh account the home screen opens on the wizard’s Welcome step, headed “Welcome to Syndik8”. Tap Get Started to begin.

Step 2: Create your group
Section titled “Step 2: Create your group”Create Your Group is the first thing the wizard asks for. A group is your syndicate: the partners who share the aircraft. Fill in:
- Group name: 3 to 50 characters. Short and recognisable beats clever.
- Description (optional): a line for your members, up to 500 characters.
Tap Create Group and the wizard rolls on to Aircraft.

set-up-your-first-syndicate/create-group-stepTwo things happen as you do this. You become the syndicate’s first admin, the role that carries out the rest of the setup. And Syndik8 gives the syndicate a starter rate band called Standard Member that every member sits on until you add more. You’ll meet it again on the Invite step.
Step 3: Add your first aircraft
Section titled “Step 3: Add your first aircraft”Every syndicate is built around at least one aircraft, so the wizard won’t move on without one. The Add Aircraft step wants:
- Aircraft name: usually the tail number, such as
G-ABCD. - Registration (optional): the full registration, if the name above is a nickname.
- Opening hours (brought forward): today’s reading from the meter you bill by. Syndik8 uses it as the starting point for usage-based maintenance, so enter what the meter actually shows now. You can change it later.
- Photo (optional): tap Add a photo to take one or choose from your library.
Tap Add Aircraft and the wizard advances to Rates.

set-up-your-first-syndicate/add-aircraft-stepThere’s no home airfield field on this step, and that’s deliberate: your first aircraft uses the syndicate’s own home airfield, which you set alongside your rates next.
Step 4: Set rates and capture
Section titled “Step 4: Set rates and capture”The Rates & capture step decides what members pay and what you record on each flight.
- Wet rate: the amount a member pays per flying hour. This is the one number you can’t skip. For example, enter
180for £180 per flying hour. - Bill on: the measure your wet rate is charged against. The choices are engine hours (Tacho), engine hours (Hobbs), brakes (block time), and wheels (airborne time). Pick the one your group flies by.
- Also record on each flight: tick any extra measures you want logged alongside the one you bill on. The measure you bill on is always recorded.
- Home airfield & fees (optional): expand this to name a home airfield and charge landing or touch-and-go fees. The fees apply to flights that return to the home airfield you enter here; a flight that ends anywhere else isn’t charged them. Leave the section collapsed if you don’t charge these.
Tap Continue.

set-up-your-first-syndicate/rates-capture-stepThe home airfield you set here is the syndicate’s default, which is why the aircraft step didn’t ask for one. Once you add a second aircraft you can give it a different base if you need to.
Step 5: Payments (optional)
Section titled “Step 5: Payments (optional)”Get started with payments lets a registered UK company collect money through Syndik8. It asks for a company registration number and details of the people who run the company, so it suits incorporated groups only.
Most first-time syndicates tap Skip for now. Booking, usage logging, and rate tracking all work without it, and you can set payments up later from the dashboard. If your group is a registered company and you want to collect payments now, tap Begin payment setup and work through the fields; otherwise tap Skip for now to move on to the last step.
Step 6: Invite your first member
Section titled “Step 6: Invite your first member”The Invite Members step sends your first invitation.
- Email address: the address of the person you’re inviting.
- Role: Admin, Member, or Viewer. Admins can approve and configure; members book and log flights; viewers get read-only access. Most first invites are Member.
Tap Send Invite. A card confirms the invite went to that address and gives you a Copy control so you can share the join link another way. Invite as many people as you like, one at a time.

set-up-your-first-syndicate/invite-stepWhen you’re done, tap Finish Setup to land on your new syndicate’s dashboard. Not inviting anyone yet? Finish Setup and Skip for now both take you straight there.
The wizard keeps invites simple, just an email and a role. To set someone up as an equity member with a share count, or to put them on a different rate band, invite them later from the fuller Invite Member screen. See Invite members.
