Bring an over-limit syndicate within the free plan
Restore a syndicate that went read-only because it reverted to the free tier while still over the free-plan limits (more than 1 aircraft, or more than 3 members).
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- You must be an admin. Either recovery route is an admin action.
- Read access is never revoked. Members can still open the calendar, bookings, balances, maintenance, and history throughout.
- There are two ways out, and the banner at the top of every tab shows both. You only need one.
- Nothing is deleted immediately. The syndicate’s data is kept and stays readable for a retention period (at least 30 days, longer if money has moved recently). It is removed only if it is still over the limits and still on the free tier at the end of that window. See grace period and read-only.
Option 1: Resubscribe
Section titled “Option 1: Resubscribe”Fastest if you want to keep everyone and every aircraft.
- On a desktop or laptop browser, sign in at syndik8.app and open the syndicate.
- Go to the Admin tab, then tap Subscription, or tap Resubscribe on the read-only banner.
- Follow upgrade from free to paid to start a paid plan.
Full read-write returns as soon as the payment goes through, and the banner disappears.
Option 2: Trim back within the free plan
Section titled “Option 2: Trim back within the free plan”Choose this if you are happy to stay on the free tier at its size. The free plan allows 1 aircraft and 3 members. Only owners, admins and members take up a seat; viewers are read-only and are not counted, however many there are. See free-tier limits.
Removing members and archiving aircraft stay available while the syndicate is read-only, precisely so you can trim. Do either or both until you are within the limits:
- Remove members down to 3 (or fewer). See remove a member.
- Archive aircraft down to 1. See archive an asset. Archiving keeps the aircraft’s history; it does not delete it.
Settle the member up before you remove them. A member cannot be removed while they still owe money, or while they have a past flight that has not been finalised, or a future booking with usage already logged against it. Both of the steps that clear those also work while the syndicate is read-only, so you are never stuck: this state deliberately lets you settle up and tidy up, and only stops you starting new spending.
So the order for each member you are removing is:
- Clear their balance. Ask them to pay, or record a payment they have already made by bank transfer or in cash.
- Finalise any past flight of theirs that is still waiting. See finalise a booking. Sort out any future booking that already has usage logged against it.
- Remove the member.
Archiving an aircraft has no equivalent precondition, so if trimming aircraft alone gets you within the plan, that is the shorter route.
The restriction lifts automatically the moment the syndicate is back within the limits. There is no separate “confirm” step, and the banner clears on the next sync.
If it goes wrong
Section titled “If it goes wrong”- You are on mobile and cannot resubscribe. The subscription screen on iOS and Android is read-only. Use a desktop or laptop browser for Option 1. Option 2 (removing members, archiving aircraft) works on any device.
- You trimmed but the banner is still there. Check you are actually within the limits: at most 1 active aircraft and at most 3 seat-consuming members. Pending invites count towards the member limit until they are accepted, withdrawn, or expire. The banner clears once the device next syncs.
- An invitation has expired but its seat has not come back. Lapsed invitations are cleared hourly rather than on the stroke of expiry, so the seat returns within an hour of the invitation running out, on every device, without anyone doing anything. Withdrawing the invitation instead frees it immediately, which is the faster route if you are trying to get back within the plan now.
- The removal is refused because of a balance or a booking. Clear it first, in the order above: record the payment, or finalise the past flight, or sort out the future booking with usage on it. Both of those steps work while the syndicate is read-only. See remove a member for the complete list of what holds a removal up.
- You tried to issue a cash call and it was refused. The create screen reports This syndicate is over its free plan and is read-only, and nothing is charged. A cash call is new spending, and this state only lets you settle and tidy. Get back within the plan first, or resubscribe, and issue it then. Approving an expense is refused for the same reason; the claim stays pending until you are back within the plan.
- You want to close the syndicate instead. If you would rather wind the syndicate down than keep it, see close a syndicate. Closing has its own preconditions, and once it goes through the ledger is frozen for good.
