Cycle

A cycle is a single landing or touch-and-go counted against an aircraft’s life-cycle maintenance. Landing gear, tyres, and certain airframe components wear per cycle rather than per hour; an aircraft that does many short training flights accumulates cycles much faster than hours.

In Syndik8, cycles is one of the maintenance interval types, alongside hours, day, month and year. A cycles-based maintenance item becomes due when the asset’s cumulative landings plus touch-and-gos reach the next threshold.

Cycles is hidden from the new-item creation form because most syndicates use hours or days. An item that already carries a cycles interval is counted against the aircraft’s accumulated landings, shows its status correctly, and grounds the aircraft when past its limit. Signing a cycles item’s completion off can also schedule its next occurrence, exactly as for any other maintenance item — see maintenance item. A cycles item can also carry a secondary calendar limit alongside its cycle count, so a landing-gear check can be “every 500 cycles or every 3 years, whichever comes first”.
