Set up Direct Debit
Set up Direct Debit
Section titled “Set up Direct Debit”Authorise a Direct Debit mandate so your syndicate can collect what you owe without you paying each charge by hand.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You set up a Direct Debit from the My Balance screen of the syndicate you belong to. The “Set up Direct Debit” card appears there once your syndicate has switched Direct Debit on; if you do not see the card, your syndicate has not enabled it yet.
You need a UK bank account that accepts Bacs Direct Debit. Have the account details to hand, because Stripe asks for them.
Set up your mandate
Section titled “Set up your mandate”

- Open the syndicate and go to the My Balance screen.
- Find the “Set up Direct Debit” card and tap Set it up. If an admin has sent you a prompt instead, open the notification or email and follow its link to the same setup screen.
- Confirm to continue. Stripe takes over to collect your bank details and take your authorisation for the Direct Debit. Follow the instructions there.
- Return to the app. The setup card now shows that your mandate is being verified.
- Stripe then emails you a link to sign the Direct Debit consent. Open it and follow it through.
- Once you have signed, your mandate becomes active. The card on your My Balance screen stops asking you to set anything up and reads “Direct Debit active” instead, naming the bank account it debits.
Those pages and that email are Stripe’s, not ours, so we do not walk you through them here. Stripe explains how a Bacs Direct Debit mandate is set up and what the Direct Debit Guarantee gives you in its Bacs Direct Debit documentation.
What a Direct Debit looks like on your statement
Section titled “What a Direct Debit looks like on your statement”A collection from your syndicate shows as Stripe on your bank statement, not the syndicate’s name. This is the payment provider Syndik8 uses, so the entry is expected.
Check, change or cancel your Direct Debit
Section titled “Check, change or cancel your Direct Debit”Your Direct Debit stays visible on My Balance for as long as it is live. The card reads “Direct Debit active” and names the last four digits of the account it debits, so you can check the right account is on it.
- Open the syndicate and go to the My Balance screen.
- Find the “Direct Debit active” card and tap Manage. This opens the same Direct Debit screen you set the mandate up on.
- To stop future collections, tap Cancel Direct Debit and confirm. We ask your bank to cancel it, and the screen updates once your bank confirms.
- To move to a different bank account, cancel the current mandate and then set a new one up from the same screen.
Cancelling only stops collections from here on. It does not undo a collection that has already been taken. To claim one of those back, contact your own bank under the Direct Debit Guarantee.
You can also cancel a Direct Debit directly with your bank. We hear about that from Stripe and mark the mandate cancelled on its own, so you do not need to do anything in the app as well.
Resend the consent email
Section titled “Resend the consent email”If the consent email does not arrive, or you miss it, you have two ways to get a fresh one.
- Return to the “Set up Direct Debit” card on your My Balance screen and start the setup again. This sends you a new consent link from Stripe.
- Alternatively, ask an admin to send you a prompt to set up Direct Debit. This sends you a notification with a link to start setup again.
