Show member names

Show member names is a per-syndicate privacy setting on the Privacy & Visibility screen. It governs two surfaces.

On the calendar: when it is on, every booking carries the author’s name; when it is off, other members’ bookings read “Busy” instead, and your own bookings still show with your name.

On the member list: when it is on, any member can open the syndicate’s member list; when it is off, only admins can. The setting was previously named for bookings alone, and the member list stayed open regardless — so a syndicate that had turned member names off still handed every member the full roster.

The setting is syndicate-wide. There is no per-member override: everyone in a given syndicate sees the calendar the same way.

  • Reading. Every member of the syndicate sees the calendar with the setting applied.
  • Changing. Admins only. The toggle is on the Privacy & Visibility screen.

The setting lives on the Admin tab, under Privacy & visibility, labelled Show member names, with the subtitle “When off, other members’ bookings show as ‘Busy’ and the member list is admins only. You always see your own name, and admins always see both.”

Route: /syndicates/:syndicateId/settings/privacy.

Setting Default Effect
Show member names On Every booking on the calendar carries the author’s name, and any member can open the member list.
Show member names Off Other members’ bookings show as “Busy”, and the member list is admins only. Your own bookings still show your name.

The setting is stored on the syndicate’s privacy settings.

  • Syndicate-wide. There is no per-member override. A member on a syndicate with the toggle off cannot switch themselves to see other members’ names, and vice versa.
  • Your own bookings are always visible to you. When the toggle is off, only other members’ bookings are anonymised to “Busy”; your own carry your name as usual.
  • With this off, other members cannot see who booked. When the toggle is off, other members’ bookings read “Busy” and the booker’s name is not shown to them. Admins still see who booked.
  • With this off, the member list is admins only. The link to it disappears from the dashboard for everybody else, and the address refuses them if they reach it directly. Admins are never gated out: a member’s role, shares, billing scheme and removal are all reached through that list.
  • What the calendar withholds and what the member list withholds are not the same strength. A booker’s name is never sent to a device that may not see it. The member list is a screen that is closed rather than data that is withheld — co-members’ names still reach the device, because much of the app resolves names locally to render your own records.
  • Applies to all calendar views. The setting affects the month view booking chips, the week view booking blocks, and the day view bars identically.
  • Does not affect the personal ICS feed. The feed only contains your own bookings, so there is no other-member data to anonymise in it.
  • Changes apply when you tap Save. The Privacy & visibility screen holds your change until you tap Save. Once saved, the calendar reflects the new setting.
