Cascading setting

A cascading setting is a billing field whose effective value comes from the first non-null layer in a three-level fallback chain: per-asset override → syndicate default → system default. If the asset has an override, it wins; otherwise the syndicate default is used; otherwise the platform’s system default applies.

All the main billing fields cascade: usage rate, shortfall rate, weekday and weekend minimum usage, event fees, the captured measures, the billed measure, taxi minutes, the engine meter label, and the start and end names of each measure. The captured measures, the billed measure and the names cascade together, as one capture configuration: an asset either sets all of them or inherits all of them.

A small set of settings do not cascade — they apply uniformly to every asset in the syndicate. “Require booking approval”, “show member names”, and the privacy toggles are syndicate-wide and cannot be overridden per asset.
