Set fuel-tank reminders on your Watch

Set fuel-tank reminders on your Watch to show a countdown during flight capture and schedule a Watch alarm for the next reminder. The Watch remembers Off, 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes separately for each aircraft; the first choice is Off.

An armed background alarm lets watchOS give repeating taps when the reminder is due, including with your wrist lowered or the app inactive. Background App Refresh must be enabled for Syndik8 on the Watch. Once your capture is loaded and the alarm is armed, reminder delivery does not need the iPhone or a network connection. Airfield lookups and submitting the capture still use the phone.

  1. Open Syndik8 on your Watch when your booking is ready to fly.
  2. On Start Flight, tap the Tank reminder button. It shows Off or the saved interval, such as Every 15 min.
  3. Turn the Digital Crown to choose Off, 10 min, 15 min, 20 min or 30 min, then tap Done.
  4. Start your capture as usual. Choosing an interval does not start its countdown; recording the start of the flight timer does.

Closing the interval screen without tapping Done leaves your choice unchanged. Your choice is kept on this Watch for that aircraft, including whether the reminder is off. It does not change the aircraft’s billing configuration or another Watch’s settings.

During the timed flight, swipe left from the timer to the Tank reminder page to see the time remaining. Swipe right to return to the flight timer. The reminder follows live airborne time when available, otherwise block time:

Capture configuration Countdown starts Countdown stops
Airborne time Takeoff Landing
Block time Brakes off Brakes on
Block and airborne time Brakes off Brakes on

When both spans are captured, takeoff and landing are entered or checked after the flight, so the reminder follows the live block timer. The flight buttons use your syndicate’s configured names. Engine-meter-only captures have no live elapsed timer and do not offer tank reminders.

The countdown is kept with the capture when you reopen the app or resume after watchOS closes it. Sleeping the screen does not pause the flight’s elapsed time or the reminder countdown. Stopping or cancelling the capture cancels its alarm; checking or changing times during post-flight review does not restart reminders.

Open the Tank reminder page after starting the flight timer and look for Alarm armed. A countdown alone does not confirm that watchOS accepted the alarm.

If Background App Refresh is disabled, enable it for Syndik8 in the Watch’s Settings → General → Background App Refresh, then return to the app. A scheduling failure shows Tank reminder not armed, with Retry alarm and Turn off reminder actions. Retry keeps the current reminder deadline; it does not start a fresh interval. Cancellation failures are also shown, so do not treat a failed or pending operation as a confirmed cancellation. The reminder page keeps that status visible, even after choosing Off, and offers Retry alarm and Settings while an operation has failed.

Each acknowledgement arms one new alarm, so a flight can continue through several reminder intervals. watchOS limits each background alarm session to 30 minutes; it is not an unlimited repeating alarm. The reminder remains due if the system ends its alert before you acknowledge it.

When due while Syndik8 is inactive, watchOS presents its own alarm with Open and Stop controls and repeats a notification haptic about every three seconds. This system alarm has a different appearance from the orange card inside Syndik8.

Choose Open to return to Syndik8. If you have not already closed the current reminder card, the orange Switch tanks card appears when the app becomes active. If you previously closed it with X, swipe to Tank reminder and tap Show reminder to reopen it. Tap the large circular tick (✓) to dismiss the card, start a fresh full interval and arm its next alarm. VoiceOver calls this action Acknowledge tank switch reminder. The flight-finish button stays on the flight timer screen; close the card to return to it.

Stop silences the system alarm; it does not acknowledge the tank reminder or start the next interval. The reminder page shows Alarm stopped. Reopen Syndik8, tap Show reminder and tap the tick to acknowledge and start the next interval.

The tick and ring stay at the centre of the screen, with Switch above the tick and tanks below it, both inside the circle. The whole circle is tappable. While you press it, the inner circle turns green with black wording, tick and ring; releasing acknowledges the reminder. Every three seconds, the orange background briefly turns black and the black title, tick and ring turn orange for half a second. With Reduce Motion, or while the app is inactive or dimmed, the alert stays orange with a black title, tick and ring.

Tap the tick to start a fresh full interval from that tap. For a 15-minute choice acknowledged 17 minutes into the flight, the next reminder is due 32 minutes into the flight. Acknowledgement does not change your recorded flight times.

Closing the card with X leaves the reminder due and does not restart the interval or silence its alarm. The card does not reopen automatically for that same reminder. Swipe to the Tank reminder page and tap Show reminder to open it again. If you are editing settings when a reminder becomes due, the card waits until you close settings.

Change or turn off a reminder during flight

Section titled “Change or turn off a reminder during flight”

Swipe to the Tank reminder page and tap Settings (or Settings / Off when due). Choose another interval or Off, then tap Done. A changed interval starts a fresh countdown from the change; your new choice is remembered for the next capture of that aircraft. Selecting the same interval leaves the existing countdown alone. The countdown page also has a Turn off button while reminders are enabled.
