Cash call

A cash call is the mechanism a syndicate uses to ask its equity members for their proportional share of a one-off cost (an engine overhaul, hangar deposit, asset purchase) in a single step. The admin enters the title, the total and a due date (or Due now); Syndik8 splits the total across active equity members proportional to their shares and records each member’s share. A share is posted to the member’s ledger as a charge on the due date, or earlier if the member pays early.

A cash call has three derived states the UI surfaces as a chip:

  • pending: no share has been paid yet.
  • partial: at least one member has paid, but not all.
  • complete: every share that is not cancelled has been paid.

The fourth state, cancelled, is set when an admin cancels the call before any payment lands. Cancellation marks every share, and any charge a share has already become, as cancelled; the records stay in place so the audit trail shows who cancelled the call, when and why. Once any share has been paid, cancellation is locked: admins use individual reversals to back out specific charges.

A share is not owed before its due date, and it is not on the ledger until then: it is outside the member’s balance, outside the Due rows, outside Pay All and out of reach of Direct Debit. It is shown on its own in the Cash calls not due yet card, where the member can pay it early if they want to; paying early posts it to the balance there and then. On the due date it is posted as an ordinary charge.

The split is frozen at the moment the call is issued. If a member’s shares change the next day, that doesn’t reshuffle shares already recorded. Each call is its own snapshot of the equity ledger as it stood at issue time.

The split uses pence-precision largest-remainder rounding: the total is divided in pence (or the equivalent minor unit), each member’s share is rounded down, and the spare pennies are handed out one each to the members with the largest fractional remainder. No member absorbs more than a single extra penny, and the per-member sum always equals the entered total exactly.
